With Love from Moab, Utah

Ah Moab, Utah. We can’t sum up its striking beauty better than John Wayne did. During the filming of the 1961 film, The Comancheros, he remarked that southeastern Utah was “Where God put the West.” It’s also where “Thelma & Louise” met their maker in the classic 1991 film.

Being outdoor lovers, Moab dazzled us. From mountain biking to white water rafting to rapelling her grandiose arches to rock climbing to jeeping, Moab is the ultimate outdoor lover’s playground.

Here’s our Moab, Utah travel guide and video:

Where to Play in Moab

Moab Adventure Center – Moab Adventure Center has it all. It really is your one stop shop for guided adventures from crazy hummer tours in Hell’s Revenge to canyoneering off cliffs 120 feet high.

Rim Tours – Whether you’re an expert mountain biker or taking the family out for the first time, Rim Bike Tours specializes in mountain biking day trips and multi-day trips throughout Moab.

If you’re not much for guided activities, the National & State parks in Moab will keep you busy. Arches, Canyonlands and Dead Horse Point offer stunning red rock views with lots of hiking and photography opportunities.

Where to Eat in Moab

For breakfast, head to Moab’s former jail for ginger pancakes at Jailhouse Café or the Love Muffin Cafe for a stellar cup of java, a bacon-blueberry-maple muffin, and a scrumptious breakfast burrito.

Head to The Moab Brewery, home of $3.50 pint of beer, for a lively local scene. Milt’s Stop and Eat is also a Moabite favorite with the best milkshakes and burgers in town.

Craving authentic Mexican cuisine after a long day of jeeping, canyoneering, biking or hiking? Miguel’s Baja Grill is where to go with potent margaritas to boot. If fine dining is your fancy, Sunset Grill’s view is sublime but Sorrel River’s River Grill Restaurant serves excellent locally harvested ingredients with elegance, worth the twenty-minute drive from town.

Where to Stay in Moab

Sorrel River Ranch (pronounced SORE-ul, like the horse) is a romantic luxury but equally rustic stay on the bank of the Colorado River about 20 minutes from downtown Moab. Not only did it make Lanee’s top 6 Sexiest Stays of 2012 list for Huffington Post, Sorrel River Ranch is both dog and horse friendly if you’d like to bring your four-legged friends along too! If you’d prefer to stay in town, the Best Western Canyonlands Inn has been recently remodeled and is a clean, affordable and convenient choice.

Getting There

Great Lakes Airlines is Moab’s only commercial airline service, offering two flights a day from Denver, Colorado. Redtail Aviation has charter flights for small groups. Another option is to fly into Salt Lake City, Utah or Grand Junction, Colorado and hire a private shuttle from Moab Luxury Coach.
